Living in Exile

By Metok Lhazey  /  January 8, 2016;

MetokLhazeyI’m Metok Lhazey. I’m going to introduce myself. I came to India in 1999 for study and crossed the Himalaya Mountains by walking with a group. We spent almost 29 days and we got lots of problems on the way.

Fortunately we arrived in India and I got a chance to study in Suja School but sadly my father was fallen sick and after one year I went back to Tibet to meet my father. Even though I made the long journey, my dad passed away before I reached to Tibet. I couldn’t see my dad.

I stayed in Tibet almost three years but the Chinese had doubts about whether I was a spy for the Tibet government-in-exile and they arrested me. I was in jail for almost one and a half months. The conditions were very bad. The Chinese asked me a lot of things about the exile situation and they thought I was a spy. At last they released me but I didn’t want to stay in Tibet any more.

I decided to come to India again because the Chinese were looking down on all Tibetans and moreover there is no human rights in China. I thought to take part in the movement of Tibet as much as I could, so in 2004 I came back to India.

I spread information about the Tibet situation as much as I can. I got lots of chance to public speak when I joined Miss Tibet contest and Miss Glory of University, 2014. Moreover, this year I also stood for the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile as the candidate for Dhotoe Chithue.
