British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced she plans to call a snap general election on 8 June despite having promised not to call an election before 2020. Europe has made it clear this will not change Europe’s plans for Brexit. May says the new poll is in the national interest and that an election is the only way to guarantee certainty and stability in the wake of Brexit.
