We are celebrating our 25 years by bringing you the story of Contact and the people who have made it happen, and our archive is still there for you to access at any time, and below you can read the story of Contact, how it came into being and the wonderful reflections of the people who have made it happen over the years.

When and how Contact will re-emerge and evolve will be determined by those who become involved.

Tibetan Exile NGO in the top two in South Asia Challenge

The exile Tibetan social work NGO, Lha Charitable Trust, was in the top two contestants in the South Asia wide NGO challenge. Lha came second in the category “Best Practices of Social Media Usage” in the 3rd eNGO Challenge Award – Celebrating Digital Information Tools for Communities – South Asia, 2014.

Lha at New Delhi 5The Award recognises the best NGO practices of using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The presentation ceremony was held at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on November 5.

From thousands of NGOs around South Asia who entered the challenge, 307 NGOs from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were nominated. From these, 49 finalists were selected to compete in the eight different categories of which one is the “Best Practices of Social Media Usage”. Lha was the only Tibetan competitor in the challenge and a team of three, Lha’s Deputy Director Mr Lobsang Rabsel, Office Secretary Mr Tsering Wangdue and General Secretary Ms Dukthen Kyi, represented the Trust.

Lha at New Delhi 1All the finalist NGOs set up stalls to publicise their work.  Being the only Tibetan NGO participating in the event, Lha staff grabbed the opportunity to talk about Tibet, its current situation and about that of Tibetans living in exile to the hundreds of people attending the event.

Lha has dedicated this award to all their generous supporters and volunteers in recognition of their contribution.
