Tibetan activists protest outside Chinese embassy in Delhi, later detained

March 13, 2017;

As Friday marks the 58th anniversary of the failed Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule, Tibetan Youth Congress activists were seen protesting outside the Chinese Embassy in the national capital on Friday. The activists were later detained by the police. On March 10, 1959, a revolt broke out in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa where thousands of Tibetans surrounded their spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, in order to protect him from being abducted by the Chinese army.The rebellion followed years of guerrilla fighting between Tibetan rebels and Chinese soldiers that began with the occupation of Tibet by the People’s Liberation Army.
